How to Learn a Wedding Dance

Some Dance Instructors prefer to write and present an entire Wedding Dance routine to a couple in the beginning of their very first lesson. The couple are then encouraged to learn the entire choreography, in its entirety, from the beginning to its end. This means, at the wedding, the couple must exactly complete their dance routine perfectly.

However, after nearly 20yrs of dance teaching experience with thousands of wonderful students, I take a “crawl, walk, run” approach.

  1. Learn a small number of individual dance steps.

  2. Be presented with a choreography, written by me. I’ll use the individual dance steps already taught to populate the time required to dance to the various verses and choruses of your chosen Wedding Dance Song..

  3. Learn the choreography, bit by bit, with some awesome styling added to ensure the flow and fun of your amazing Wedding Dance.

This Three Step Approach means I can also teach you contingency management i.e. what to do if something goes a little bit wrong when doing your dance at the Reception.. (In being also a Wedding Celebrant, MC & DJ, I’ve been at the wedding night “finishing line” for hundreds of my couples dancing their actual First Dance. So, from these experiences, I know how to prepare you for what’s ahead.) Easy!
