Is Dancing Good for Your Fitness?

Dancing is good for your fitness! It promotes both physical health and mental health, and is relatively cheaper than say an expensive gym membership. This is especially true for dancing in the social, group lessons and likewise for the (slightly more expensive) private dance lessons (but where the rate of learning is rapid).

According to the National Library of Medicine (please click here), dancing enhances physical well-being by furthering strength, suppleness, coordination and balance in varying quantities. The more ‘energetic’ forms of dance (e.g. Salsa, Cha Cha and Merengue) provide fantastic aerobic exercise. Likewise, the Ballroom dance styles (e.g. Rumba and Bolero) require great coordination and fluidity in movement.

Also, unlike running, dancing is a low-impact physical activity. Hence, dancing can be often loved by the young and the “young at heart” (despite that their running days might long behind them). Having taught dance to thousands of people, I’ve personally supported every body shape, people in their 20’s to those in their 60’s, able bodied and those with special needs. For everyone in a position to dance, there are definite physical and mental health benefits to be enjoyed, plus having fun!

If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask me during your fun private dance lessons in the Let’s Dance wedding dance studio.
