What is Muscle Memory for your Brisbane or Gold Coast Wedding Dance?

“Muscle Memory” is the ability for your working muscles to perform certain movements without any mental effort by you. This certainly applies to dancing, tennis, swimming, martial arts, etc. Biologically, “Muscle Memory” is not the retention of memories within the working muscles. Instead, “Muscle Memory” is the memory stored in the brain, specifically the “Motor Cortex” that controls movement.

During your wedding dance, your “Muscle memory” will be the difference between feeling unhinged to feeling confident. It’s your First Dance, many guests and their cameras around you, so let’s avoid the Awkward Sway! So, as your Wedding Dance Instructor with 20yrs teaching experience, here are my three steps to help you best …

  1. Learn the mechanics of say five to ten individual dance steps that match the rhythm of your chosen Wedding Dance song.

  2. Write your routine / choreography using the steps taught to populate the various verses and choruses of your song (or some part of your song).

  3. Teach you how to dance your routine / choreography section by section, and slowly add styling to the overall Wedding Dance.

Across the past 1,500 wedding dance couples I’ve taught, this bit-by-bit approach greatly supports “muscle memory” and the rapid learning of a wedding dance. It’s ideal for Brisbane Wedding Dance Lessons and Gold Coast Wedding Dance Lessons.
